Business, can it be a mitzvah ? (act of kindness)

Feed your soul and the children is about following my heart and supporting beliefs –I love music, particularly jazz and I also have a passion to make a difference in the world. Probably a phrase that is a bit overworked lately but I believe that many of us are coming to a time where going out to get the pay check to just exist from week to week is not a enough. There is a calling to do more, there is a recognition that we have the power and the opportunity to do more, I also believe that it is our responsibility to do more. As individuals we CAN effect change, for our own lives and that of others.

Recently I heard about a company called Toms shoes.
www.tomsshoes.com Founded by a guy called Blake Mycoskie, his vision is simple, he sells shoes, but for every pair that is sold he also gives a pair to a child in need. He was inspired whilst travelling in Argentina and saw hundreds of deprived children without shoes . Rather than just walking away and one would presume he had the joy wearing shoes at the time, Mykoskie didn’t just see this as another problem in the world that really didn’t have anything to do with him, he took action by working out a sustainable business model so that he could help these children.

This isn’t about charity, Tom’s shoes is about business doing good. Dame Anita Roddick said “ Business has more power than the church or any government to make a difference” Yes, business can make money and be a mitzvah. Many businesses are now adopting this concept and it also makes good business sense. Business leaders and entrepreneurs can have an even greater reason to feel proud of what they create and their empire becomes more than just about the money. Consumers are happier shopping with an organisation that is making a difference as it means they can make a difference simply from choosing where they shop. There is a great feel good factor and everybody gets to win. In fact a consumer is 32% more likely to shop with a company that is cause -related over one that is not.

Feed your soul and the children, follows a passion with music and the opportunity to do a mitzvah by providing funding for music therapy and arts initiatives.

The website contains international gigs and events, reviews, an art gallery for jazz art, you can also currently WIN an Apple ipod and download 25 of your favourite tracks FREE with digital music provider eMusic.

Feed your soul will fund various projects that are involved with using music to heal, to inspire and help the quality of life for fragile lives. With the economic climate as it is many arts initiatives have had their funding cut, if we can step in and help, that would be great. Our concept for fundraising is simple, we have teamed up with the leading providers of digital music, eMusic, for each new subscriber to their FREE trial then this provides 50p funding for music therapy and initiatives. We believe this is a way to develop a more sustainable way to help those that need it. People don’t have spare cash for donations now, so we have created an opportunity to make contribution simple through normal shopping and everyday purchases”

We all have the power to act and make a difference.

Be the change, because the change starts with you.
